Newcastle and Gateshead Clean Air Zone charge applies to older vans from 17th July 2023, which will apply to us (as our van falls within the chargeable category). The daily charge is £12.50 when entering this zone, and is aimed at reducing air pollution within the city centre of Gateshead and Newcastle.
What this means for customers in post code areas that require us to enter to CAZ?
We are committed to keeping delivery charges to a minimum, and only charging the cost of fuel on-top of equipment hired. However, the fuel crisis over the past few years has an increased impact on delivery charges, and now the CAZ will take into affect also. If your postal code requires us to travel through the impacted areas (shown on the map below), you will see an increased delivery charge that will cover the charge for entering this zone. This is out of our control as our vehicle does not meet the CAZ standard for entering without charge.
Our plans going forward?
We are already working on upgrading the type of vehicle we deliver our equipment in to meet the standard set by the UK Government which will then dissolve this daily charge, keeping the cost of delivery down. At present, an upgrade to our vehicle isn’t within our plans for 2023, and we hope that the change of vehicle will happen in 2024, which will then see delivery prices go back-down to what they were (covering the cost of fuel only).
We hope you can continue to work with us through this, and support our small growing business. We hope you understand this impact has not been taken lightly, but giving us no current option other than to accept the daily charge for entering the CAZ within Gateshead and Newcastle.
